I believe that there is a good possibility that the New York Jets could draft a DE. First of all, the Jets run a 3-4, so they would need to pick up a 5 technique. Most 3-4 DEs that can play a 5 technique play 4-3 DT in college. 3-4 DEs that could be drafted in the 1st are Ndamakong Suh, Cameron Heyward, Allen Bailey, Jared Odrick, and Carlos Dunlap.

New York has many other needs as well. They need a WR because Braylon is a free agent after this year and is very inconsistent. The Jets could draft Dez Bryant or Damian Williams with their 1st pick. Even though Mark Sanchez is a young QB who does need a WR to help, I think the Jets will draft a DE in the 1st round.

WR Braylon Edwards is Mr. Butterhands and will most likely not return to the Big Apple next year. All the other WR on the squad are David Clowney, Jerricho Cotchery, Brad Smith, and Wallace Wright. They also have the WR/RB hybrid Danny Woodhead. None of those names stick out so they would need to get a #1 WR now, and not one in 2 or 3 years. There are many big name WR that will be available after this season. Some of those big names are Brandon Marshall, Vincent Jackson, Miles Austin, and Antonio Bryant. All of those players could be a #1 WR in new York. The Jets could make a move for one of these players and get a reliable player. Also, they could get a WR in the second round to develop into a #2 WR with the free agent like Golden Tate or Arrelious Benn

The Jets have been allowing over 100 rushing yards in all but three game since the first month of the season. If they want to be an elite defense, they will need a run stuffer at DE. Across from Shaun Ellis, they have no one. Marques Douglas is ok and Mike DeVito is a career backup. I like the 3-4 DE class this year. The best choice at the position they will most likely be drafting from is Cameron Heyward out of Ohio State. He is an underclassmen who had 9 TFL and 5.5 sacks. Standing at 6-6 and 285, he will gain another 10-15 pounds in the NFL and could excel at the next level.

After the 2nd day of the draft, I think they will draft Cameron Heyward in the 1st round and Golden Tate in the 2nd round, but it's only December and anything can change until April.

Jags Sign OT Tra Thomas

According to the Associated Press, OT Tra Thomas signed a 3 year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. This deal fills a key hole, as he will replace the struggling Khalif Barnes, who is a free agent and will probably not return to the team. This will most likely be Thomas's last contract, as the 34 year old doesn't have much gas in his tank. For the NFL Draft, they don't have to address the offensive tackle position in the 1st round. They could go after wide receiver like Jeremy Maclin.

Tra Thomas has spent his whole 11 year career in Philadelphia, until today. He was selected as the 11th overall pick out of Florida State. During his time in Philadelphia, he made 3 Pro Bowls in '01, '02, and '04. I think that Thomas will perform well for the Jaguars for 2 seasons.

Cardinals Sign CB Bryant McFadden

The Cardinals upgraded its defense by adding former Steeler Bryant McFadden to a two year contract worth 10 million dollars. McFadden will make 5 million each year, according to ESPN.com's John Clayton. McFadden will join the promising Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, helping out as the 2nd cornerback.

Bryant McFadden played college ball at Florida State, before being selected in the 2nd round by the Steelers. During his time in Pittsburgh, he recorded 135 tackles and 7 ints during the 4 years. I believe that McFadden will be a hit or a miss free agent signing for the Cardinals.

Laveranues Coles Heading to Cincinnati

According to ESPN.com's John Clayton, WR Laveranues Coles and the Bengals have agreed to terms. Coles will be making 28 million dollars during the next 4 seasons. I think the Bengals made a strong move, bringing in a solid #2 wide receiver next to Chad Ocho Cinco.

The Bengals recently lost Pro Bowl WR TJ Houshmandzadeh to the Seahawks, which was a big blow to them. With the lost to Housh, they had no #2 wide receiver. Their options were troublesome Chris Henry and Jerome Simpson (who I think will become a bust). They wanted to sign Coles, but they had to win him over from the Buffalo Bills.

Laveranues Coles was a former 3rd round draft pick from Florida State. During his career at Florida State, he had been arrested multiple times, including a shop lifting incident. After spending a couple years in New York, he signed with the Washington Redskins in '02. During the '03 season, he was voted to the Pro Bowl. After leaving Washington, he rejoined the Jets for several years.

Antonio Smith Signs with Houston

Yesterday, the Texans addressed one of their major needs, according to ESPN.com's John Clayton. DE Antonio Smith will make 35 million dollars over the next 5 seasons. The goal was to get a solid DE to play opposite of Mario Williams. This was a great addition, as they don't have to address it during the NFL Draft.

"I think it's going to be a great pair. I think that having him on the other side is going to be fun. I like to have fun out there, and I think that's exactly what it's going to be. We're going to cause a lot of havoc for the offensive linemen out there," Smith said.

Antonio Smith was a former 5th round draft pick by Arizona out of Oklahoma State. He will reunite with former assistant coach Frank Bush, who is now the Houston defensive coordinator. His best season was in '07, where he recorded 43 tackles and 5.5 sacks.

Brian Dawkins is Now a Bronco

Brian Dawkins was a former 2nd round draft pick by the Eagles out of Clemson. He has spent all of his 13 year career in Philadelphia, until today. During his time in Philadelphia, he has collected 936 tackles and 34 int. I believe the Eagles were very stubborn, as they didn't really make an attempt for him.

Matt Cassel Traded to Chiefs

Today, the Chiefs agreed to trade their 2nd round draft pick to the Patriots for QB Matt Cassel, according to the Associated Press. This was the second trade between Kansas City and New England this offseason, but I believe there is only one winner in the trades.

Kansas City is the winner between the two teams. They received OLB Mike Vrabel, who will bring leadership to a young team without experience. This was a great move and could help in the long run. They also received QB Matt Cassel. Cassel is a young arm slinger who filled in for Tom Brady and performed beyond expectations. He will be the face of the franchise, and this is one more great step GM Scott Pioli is making.

The Patriots are my losers today. They only received a 2nd round. They could have received more, like maybe two 2nd round draft picks or a 2nd and a 3rd round draft pick. The positive thing this is that Tom Brady's knee is "ok". I don't know if Brady's knee will be 100%, but you never know.

This will affect the NFL Draft for the Chiefs. Since Cassel was obtained, the Chiefs will not draft a QB this year in the first day. They could address a different position like LB or OT. A good draft pick could be OT Eugene Monroe or OLB Aaron Curry. The Patriots with the 34th overall draft pick could draft another young LB like Clay Matthews.

Derrick Brooks and Others Cut by Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have cut Pro Bowl LB Derrick Brooks and four other veterans, according to ESPN.com's John Clayton. WR Joey Galloway and Ike Hilliard, RB Warrick Dunn, and LB Cato June were the others who were let go today.

"Our family and the entire Tampa Bay community owe Derrick an indescribable measure of gratitude for all that he has meant over the last 14 years. His play on the field and leadership in the locker room helped resurrect our franchise and we look forward to celebrating his certain enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame,"Bucs co-chairman Bryan Glazer announced in a statement.

Derrick Brooks was a 11 time Pro Bowl LB and former first round pick out of Florida State in 1995. He was a key component for the 2002 Super Bowl team, as they beat down the Raiders. He will be inducted into the Hall of Fame as one of the best coverage linebackers ever.

With this move, the Bucs are trying to restart. They have a new coach, new defensive coordinator, and new philosophy. The Cover 2 is being replaced, and Brooks was one of the best linebackers in that system. Brooks was able to play WLB and make open field tackles downfield, while covering.

Eagles Trying to Get #1 Wide Receiver

Donovan McNabb is still one of the elite quarterbacks in the league and he can still take a team to the Super Bowl, but Philadelphia needs someone to make sure McNabb stays in Philadelphia and make it to the Super Bowl. They need a number one wide receiver. They could contend for the Super Bowl next season for sure, but they need that extra boost to get over the hump. Here are some options for the Eagles.

TJ Houshmandzadeh is going to become a free agent and I think that he would be a good fit. Houshmandzadeh is 6'1''/200 lbs and has great hands. Houshmandzadeh can also be involved as a return specialist for the Eagles. Housh is a possession receiver and could end up with over 100 receptions next season. I think that Housh has been a better than Chad Ocho Cinco (Johnson) since the '05 season.

Even though Owen Daniels is a TE, he could be a great addition this offseason. The need for a tight end is the next top priority, since the overated LJ Smith is now a free agent. Last season, Daniels made the Pro Bowl as a replacement for Antonio Gates. If they sign Daniels, the offer could be matched by the Texans.

Lets say they sign Daniels. They still have to get a wide receiver, but it could be a #2 receiver. I think they could sign Marvin Harrison, who was granted his release today by the Colts. Even though his production is going down, he could still gain 800 yards a season with a team in need of a wide receiver. McNabb used to throw to Harrison at Syracuse, so he could be a major factor on McNabb's decision to re-sign with the Eagles.

TJ Houshmandzadeh is the most likely though for the Eagles, but there are many other options for the Eagles to make. Housh with McNabb and Westbrook could make a dangerous offense, ccontending for the Super Bowl.

Max Starks Signs Franchise Tender

Max Starks signed his franchise tender, after being tagged, according to ESPN.com's John Clayton. Starks was slapped with the franchise tag earlier this week and could have started looking at other teams. His tender is one year/8.45 million dollars. He will be the starting left tackle for the Steelers.

Last season, Starks didn't start out as the starting tackle. As a reserve, he filled in for injured Marvel Smith. After having a productive season, the Steelers wanted to keep him in the Steel City. Starks was a 3rd round draft pick from Florida in 2004.

Deuce McAllister Released by Saints

Today, the New Orleans Saints parted ways the RB Deuce McAllister, according to the ESPN's John Clayton. McAllister was due for 5 million dollars and the Saints were under the salary cap. This move was a must move and they had no other solutions.

McAllister wasn't at the peak of his game, and I think it was a good move. He only rushed for 418 yards with 3.9 carry average. McAllister could go somewhere to be a 2 down back and share time with another back. The Saints could sign a big running back in the offseason like Cedric Benson or draft one like Chris Wells.

Fred Taylor Cut by Jaguars

After 11 seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the associated press is reporting that Fred Taylor won't be playing next year in Jacksonville. Taylor, who was due 6 million dollars next season was released by the Jaguars today. Del Rio told the 33 year old that the team has no intensions of re-signing him.

I thought it was time for him to leave, even though Taylor wanted to finish his career there. He was going to loose time to Maurice Jones-Drew. He will find a team and could sign a one or two year contract worth 2 to 3 million dollars per year. Some teams that could look at him are Cincinnati and San Diego. He could retire too, ending his career as the 16th on the all time rushing list.

Julius Peppers Doesn't Want the Franchise Tag

The Carolina pro bowler Julius Peppers announced that he doesn't want to return to the Panthers next season. He said that he calls North Carolina his home, but he rather be with another team. Julius expressed that he wants to leave the 4-3 and become a 3-4 OLB. Peppers says, If they decide to use the tag on me, the first thing that I'll be doing is requesting a trade. Then anything after, basically I don't know what would be the course of action. We'll deal with that when that time comes."

I think Peppers should return to the Panthers. He had a great season, grew up in North Carolina, and the Panthers can contend for the Lombardi Trophy next season. I don't know if he is going to be fast enough standing up to make plays. I see him if he goes somewhere else at least 40 tackles and at high 12 sacks. I don't see Peppers doing much at OLB next season.

Where Will Michael Vick End Up?

Michael Vick right now is serving a 23 month jail sentence for dog fighting, but his time is almost up and now he will be back in the NFL. So, what will happen to Vick? I see him being released by the Falcons, and here is why.

Michael Vick is currently in a contract, making 9 million dollars with a 6.43 million dollars bonus in the 2009 season. No one knows how fit Vick is and how he is going to perform. I don't know if anyone will trade for him. He is just too risky and his contract is too big. In the end, they won't get a good enough trade offer and they will cut him.

If they do cut Vick, there are a couple places he could end up. One place is in Minnesota, where they need a quarterback. Tarvaris Jackson hasn't lived up to his expectations and John David Booty is a career backup in the NFL. They could use a quarterback if they don't draft one. Another place Vick could end is San Francisco. Alex Smith is one of the biggest busts of all time, while Shaun Hill isn't the answer.

I don't know if Vick could play quarterback. He hasn't played in over two seasons and he may not have an arm anymore, but he can still play in the NFL. I can see him play wide receiver in the NFL, possibly the Jacksonville Jaguars. This may seem crazy, but I think if he doesn't play quarterback again, he could sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a slot receiver. Hines Ward is getting old and they could use another wide receiver if they loose home run hitter Nate Washington. I doubt this would happen though.

In the end, I see Michael Vick playing for the Minnesota Vikings in the '09 season. I think he will struggle in his first season back, but improve in the next two seasons.

Brandon Jacobs gets Slapped with the Tag

NY Giant RB Brandon Jacobs was franchised today, according to the associated press. Jacobs was the power back for the Giants, running for a 5 ypc average and gaining 1089 yards. Jacobs will be the feature back next year if Derrick Ward leaves, which will most likely happen.

I think they need to make a long term deal before the deadline because they not worry about one next season. He could leave next season if he doesn't get the money he is looking for next season.

Thoughts on Brett Favre's Retirement

Brett Favre retired this week, and many football fans are sad. I'm sort of sad, but also not. He had a great career and we should be happy for the Favre family. He is one of the greatest players ever and he just made the QB position look easy. I agree with Brett Favre's decision 100%. I think it was time for him to hang up the towel.

Favre's career was a rollercoaster. His glory days, his struggles, his amazing game against Oakland after his dad died, and his drama with the Green Bay Packers. I watched the play where Favre threw that pick in the NFC Championship Game vs. NY Giants and that was heartbreaking. That could have been his last play, but it wasn't.

Last offseason was annoying to me, hearing Brett Favre and the Packer organization pick at each other. I was tired of all of the drama within a week. I think Favre shouldn't have came out of retirement because it ruined some of his legacy. Also, since he ended up with the NY Jets, there was going to be media and people all around him.

I didn't think Favre fit in with Mangini's offense. I thought with a Bill Bellichick product in Eric Mangini, I didn't think it wasn going to work out, and I was partially right. They started the season 8-3, but couldn't get into the playoffs. Favre's legacy will be remembered as thte quarterback who never gave up, the one who was the coolest in tight situations, the one who you would want with two minutes left in the game.

Congrats Dan Morgan

The Associated Press has annouced that former linebacker Dan Morgan will re-joined the Saints after leaving them a season ago. Morgan retired last year due to concussions. Since is retirement, he has regained much of his strength and is saying he will give it a go. From talking to Mickey Loomis, the general manager, I feel like they're really excited to have me back," Morgan said.

Dan Morgan was released by the Carolina Panthers after spending time on IR for the season. He then signed with the Saints, after seven years with the Carolina Panthers. Before the season began, Morgan retired because he sustained five concussions he suffered over the years in Charlotte. Even though he is making a comeback, I don't know how he is going do. His performance could be shakey and he may suffer another injury. I see him back in the league for one to two years.

Texans cut Ahmad Green

Today, the Houston Texans cut RB Ahmad Green. Green was signed a couple of years ago to be the running back of the team, but that didn't pan out so well. He has sustained injuries since he joined the Texans and hasn't been there to carry the load.

Last year, they drafted Steve Slaton and had a suprising season, rushing for over 1000 yards. I always thought Ahmad Green has been overrated since his last seasons in Green Bay. I don't really care that Green is cut. He has proved that he stay healthy a whole season, so I see him as a backup for the rest of the career or he may retire.

Franchise Who? Michael Koenen

NFL.com's Adam Schefter is reporting that the Falcons will use their franchise tag, on a punter! Thats right, a punter. Michael Koenan, an undrafted free agent from Western Washington is expected to be slapped with the franchise tag. That has suprised me and many others since this almost never happens.

Michael Koenen is a punter, but also handles kickoffs. He franchise tag will give him 2.48 million dollars next season. This transaction is very rare, as it almost has nevered happened. The only other time it occured was when the Carolina Panthers franchised Todd Sauerbrun in 2003. I have mixed feelings about the franchise tag. He is a valued special teams player who can put teams deep into their territory, but franchising him? I think they could have signed him a lot less money around the 1.5 million range.

Will Kurt Warner return to the Cardinals?

It seems like Kurt Warner has a lot of thinking to do this offseason. Kurt Warner isn't looking young anymore and isn't getting younger. There are many key components for Kurt Warner for him to think about. I think in the end, Kurt is going to call it quits.

Kurt Warner won the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, which is awarded to the a player who has had a positive effect in the community. I think he wants to do more for his community. That's one of his factors in his decision.

The Cardinals' have there "franchise" quarterback in Matt Lienart. I don't think Leinart is going to pan out and should have entered the 2005 NFL. Lienart also wasn't Whisenhut's guy, it was Dennis Green's. I don't what the Cardinals are going to do with Lienart, but he better be worth something.

Kurt Warner is 37 and doesn't have many years left in this league. I question whether he can compete at the same level as he did last season. His arm won't be able to have the same velocity or accuracy, so he may want to retire.

If Warner retired, he wouldn't finish his playing career on a good note. Losing the Super Bowl to probably the best franchise isn't the greatest way to call it quits. He may want to play another season and maybe win the Super Bowl.

In the end, I honestly don't see Warner returning. He is just too old and won't compete at the same level as last year. He will be happy after his career, helping his community out. If he does retire, I see them drafting a quarterback in the 2nd or 3rd round like a Nate Davis of Ball State or Nathan Brown of Central Arkansas. Free agency could be an answer, if they could get a guy like Brett Ratliff or Brock Berlin.

Wildcat Thoughts

The wildcat formation this past season has been one of the biggest talks in the NFL. Teams couldn't stop the formation, as teams were able to drive down the field and score almost every time. The Miami Dolphins used the wildcat as their attack, as Ronnie Brown would become the "quarterback" and Chad Pennington went wide. This formation worked well as Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams had good seasons. Ronnie Brown rushed for 916 yards on 214 carries, averaging 4.3 ypc. That is very impressive since he shared time with Ricky Williams, who had 659 yards and had 4.1 ypc. I think the wildcat formation will develop into a full time offense. That really saying something.

Jon Gruden had a joint interview with the Sential and the Tampa Tribune. Gruden thinks that Florida's QB Tim Tebow can change the game. "He's the strongest human being who's ever played the position. Ever," Gruden exclaimed. "He will kick the living **** out of a defensive lineman. He'll fight anybody. He is rare. Tebow is the kind of guy who could revolutionize the game. He's the 'wildcat' who can throw. Most of the teams that have the wildcat back there, it's Ronnie Brown, it's Jerious Norwood, it's whoever you want to say it is. This guy here is 250 pounds of concrete cyanide, man. And he can throw. He throws well enough at any level to play quarterback."

Many people have given up on Tebow, saying he wont be able to play as a QB in the NFL. I haven't given up yet. I think this kid has the talent and heart to play the position. He needs to improve his throwing though and take some more snaps under center. If he improves on his arm, he could surprise people. He is able to throw a lot better than a running back and can power the ball down defenses' throats. He is the total package. He has the chance to change the pro game, but he has to work hard for it.

Champions sign "Joystick" Logan of the CFL

Stefan Logan was the running back for the CFL's B.C. Lions last season, when they finished the season 4 and 14. The B.C. Lions have great talent, but didn't have a good season and they are losing players to the NFL. Stefan Logan signed with the champion Pittsburgh Steelers this Thursday, according to the Vancouver Sun.

Logan is about 5'7'' and 185 lbs. Last year, he was the CFL's most exciting player, averaging a outstanding 7. 3 ypc. He is too small to play as a 2 or 3 down back, but will be a Dante Hall like returner and maybe a 3rd down back. He was born in Miami, Florida and played his college ball at South Dakota. He was a udrafted free agent and was signed by the Miami Dolphins, but didn't see playing time before he got cut. He then went to the CFl where he played a season for the BC Lions. I think the Steelers' special teams needs to be improved and this was a good choice by Mike Tomlin and the front office.

Super Bowl XLIII Thoughts

Super Bowl XLIII was exciting, keeping you on your feet every second of the game. The Fitzgerald touchdown was a game changer, but it didn't change the game enough. Santonio's amazing catch was as exciting as Burress's catch last Super Bowl. It was amazing to see him be able to have two feet inbounds and have total control was amazing. That play will be in Super Bowl history.

The running game for the Steelers wasn't the greatest, as Darnell Dockett and the Cardinals D-Line came through the middle and stuffed it up. Willie Parker could gain 5 yards from the outside, but sometimes he would loose 2 yards. The Cardinals ground game was a little better than the Steelers, but they didn't do must better. Arizona decided to pass more, and was able to drive down the field at times, but were very inconsistent.

I like the play calling from Bruce Arians, as they were able to drive down the field in the first quarter. My problem was the play calling in red zone. They weren't able to produce anything in the second quarter when they had two attempts to score from the 5 each time. They ran it on 1st down and got absolutely nothing. The Cardinals weren't really in the red zone, but when they were, they were produced. James Harrison's interception was absolutely beautiful, as he was in right possision at the right time and took it to the house. By the way, that was the longest play in Super Bowl history, as he ran 100 yards.

Dick LeBeau is the best defensive coordinator in NFL history. He was able to make sure Kurt Warner and the wide receivers didn't get too hot to stop. Mike Gandy, the LT for Arizona Cardinals was holding every play on James Harrison and only called holding on him 3 times. It should have been 1st and 50 because of the all of the holdings. Man, I was going crazy watching Gandy hold every single time. I enjoyed this game and this was my 2nd favorite game ever. Super Bowl XL was my favorite and probably one of the most emotional games ever.

Rex Ryan the Jets Next Head Coach

Raven's defensive coordinator Rex Ryan is the next Jets' head coach, according to ESPN. Rex Ryan coached the Raven's defense that kept the Ravens together. Ryan is the son of former head coach Buddy Ryan. Ryan will bring the 3-4 to New York and I think this is going to help develop OLB Vernon Gholston, who was their first pick last year. Ryan has to be ready for all of the media New York has to offer. Also, he has to fix the biggest problem in the organization right now, figuring out what Brett Farve is going to do. I think under Rex Ryan, the Jets will be mediocre in the 2009 season. The defense will be improve, but I think the offense will struggle at the end of the season, like it did this season.

Sacco Flacco

Flacco looked like a rookie yesterday, passing for 141 yards and 3 INT. Doesn't that sound a little similar. I think it reminds me of..... Ben Roethlisberger. The rookie learned a lesson yesterday. I was at the game, and Flacco was harassed most of the time. Woodley was a beast, recording 2 sacks on Flacco and pressuring him all the time. Roethlisberger looked really comfortable, being able to elude tacklers and throwing the ball to his receivers. The one to Santonio Holmes was really nice, throwing across the field perfectly to him. Flacco struggled was because the running game stunk up the place. Even Willie Parker struggled, only recording 47 yards on 24 attempts. The rookie is now experieced and will do better next year, hopefully.

Larry Fitzgerald: Can This Dude be Anymore Beast?

Wow. That's what you would say when you see Larry Fitzgerald catch the hardest passes in all of football. This guy is speechless. He will never drop a ball and will dominate secondaries left and right. You've seen this guy in the playoffs, right? He has 267 yards receiving through two games and is leading all wide receivers in receiving yards by more than 100! That's unbelievable. He had one of the greatest catches I had every seen in the first playoff game, where he adjusted himself in mid air to catch a ball thrown behind him over two Falcon backs. That is amazing.

The only chance the Cardinals have a chance of winning Super Bowl XLIII is if Larry Fitzgerald puts up solid numbers with Anquan Boldin. Fitzgerald and Boldin are the face of the franchise in Arizona now, and you can't lose either one of them. And if Kurt Warner leaves to hit free agency or he retires next year, you need a wide receiver like Fitzgerald or Boldin to help develop Matt Lienart. This is probably the most important player on your team right now. Larry Fitzgerald will become a legend sooner or later.

Steve Spagnuolo Named Next Rams Coach

Julius Peppers Wants Out

Carolina's DE Julius Peppers says he wants to explore free agency. Peppers's agent, Carl Carey spoke for Peppers, saying "The front office has been informed of my desire to explore opportunities with other NFL teams following the expiration of my contract next month." Peppers doesn't want a long term contract, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen. The only way the Panthers could keep Peppers is if the would franchise Peppers, which would be 17 million dollars next season.

I agree with this decision because Peppers can probably make more money somewhere else. Some teams that could be interested are the Giants, Bears, Bills, and Packers. He could fill in with all of these teams and make an immediate impact. Julius had a monstrous season, recording 14.5 sacks, according to NFL.com. I think if he signs with any of the teams I named, he would record at least 10 sacks next season.

Thoughts on Jon Gruden's Firing

Yesterday, Tampa Bay's head coach Jon Gruden was fired. He led the Bucs to a 9-4 record, before losing the last 3 games and missing the playoffs. I have mixed feelings about the firing, but I think it was the right move. First of all, the Bucs started out great this season, but their defense and offense collasped and they lost their final games and missed the playoffs. Gruden should have kept this team together, but he didn't. Inside the locker room, there were mixed feelings about Gruden. Mark Clayton came out and announced he wasn't suprised about the firing. The Glazers family fired Gruden, wanting a change. Joel Glazer, the co-chairman said, "At the end of every season we sit back and look at everything. We did that last year and went forward with the extensions," according to ESPN. Raheem Morris, the Bucs defensive coodinator will replace Jon Gruden as the head coach. Rasheem will do have some trouble, taking over a old team.

Wacco for Flacco

Joe Flacco is having a great season, leading his team to the AFC Championship Game against the favorite Pittsburgh Steelers. Flacco lead his team to a 11-5 record in the regular season, and have won his first two games in the playoffs. Flacco is wacco! He reminds me a lot of Big Ben. Roethlisberger had a very productive season, leading his team to 15-1 and to the AFC Championship, where they lost to the New England Patroits. Flacco is in a very similar position that Big Ben was in. Also, when I was watching both players during the playoffs, I saw that both of them have a very similar deep ball. Both toss the ball to their receivers and half the time his wide receivers end up catching the rock.

I think Joe Flacco will struggle against the #1 defense during the playoffs. Also, he isn't yet experienced in cluth positions, where he needs to drive his team down the field with less than a minute left. Next year, Flacco will be a lot more experienced and the Ravens have a chance to go all the way.

The Pittsburgh Steelers Needs: 1-16-09

The Steelers needs haven't changed much since my last update. Their biggest needs are still the O-Line, especially at OT and C. They have allowed Big Ben to be the most sacked QB since 2005, which isn't a good stat. I have though changed my mind a little. I think they could get Jonathon Luigs in the second round, so they will reach for a OT. Last year, Atlanta reached for Sam Baker and Houston reached for Duane Brown and so far it has worked. I think a good prospect that has his stock rising is William Beatty of Connecticut. He is 6'6''/310 and was the stud on the O-Line for the Huskies. He blocked for the countries leading rusher, Donald Brown.

He is my 6th best OT behind Andre Smith, Michael Oher, Jason Smith, Eugene Monroe, and Eben Britton. Sadly, if his draft stock keeps on rising, the Steelers will loose him. If his stock stays put or lowers a little, the Steelers have a good chance of drafting him.

1st Round DE Talent

In this years' draft, there is a great depth at DE and there is a need at DE. There are many DEs that can be drafted in the first round. Here are some of them.

Brian Orakpo, Texas- He is the best DE in this years' draft. He will most likely play at the 4-3 DE position in the NFL. He is 6'4''/260 and had 11 sacks this season, terrorizing the elite QBs in the Big 12. I think he will do well on a couple of teams, contributing to his team.

Everette Brown, Florida State- He is the best 3-4 OLB that played DE in college. He is very athletic and will be able to get the QB. Brown is 6'4''/250 and able to make the transition in the next level. I like this kid and he can be an Pro Bowler

Michael Johnson, Georgia Tech- He has great height and is very athletic. He will play at the 4-3 DE, but he will have to gain a little bit more weight. This guy is going to be a hit or a miss because people bash on his production, but I don't agree. He still had 9 sacks. He will do fine in the NFL.

Aaron Maybin, Penn State- Maybin is very interesting, because he is only a redshirted sophomore. He is very talented though. He will play 3-4 OLB and will absolutely torcher the QBs in his conference. He is about 6'4''/240 and will be a nightmare in the next level.

Clint Sintim, Virginia- Sintim's stock has been soaring since the college football season ended. He is a DE/OLB highbreed and he can play both DE or OLB. It will depend who he is drafted by. He is about 6'3''/240.

Paul Kruger, Utah- This guy's stock has rocketed recently. He is only a third year sophomore, but he already declared for the NFL. He was a key component for the Utes and its undefeated season. He is very balanced, being able to stop the pass and run. He had 8 sacks and 16.5 TFL last season. He is about 6'5''/265 and could play as a 4-3 or 3-4 DE, depending how much he grows within a year.

Schwartz Becomes Next Coach of the Lions

Wow. So far the Post-Millen Era is going to be as bad as the Millen Era. The Lions have introduced new head coach Jim Schwartz, according to AOL News. Schwartz was recently the defensive coordinator of the Tennessee Titans, who had a great defense this season with Albert Haynesworth and Keith Bullock. I disagree with the Lions choosing Schwartz as their coach, but I don't think anybody else would want to be the Lions' coach. I hope they draft a defensive player in the 1st round because both sides need a lot a help.

Mark Sanchez Expect to go Pro

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that USC's quarterback, Mark Sanchez will enter the NFL Draft. Today, Sanchez will meet with coach Pete Carroll about his future. Sanchez will hold a press conference today at 1 pm eastern time at Heritage Hall, according to ESPN's senior analyst Chris Mortensen. I think this a good move for Mark Sanchez. He looked amazing, scorching the Nittany Lion's secondary during the Rose Bowl. He is the second best quarterback in this years draft, behind Georgia's Matt Stafford (Sam Bradford is returning for junior season). Mark Sanchez is a Top 25 draft pick, going as high as 3 to the Chiefs. If he would have stayed in school, he could be injured, which would hurt his draft stock. Also, he would have to compete against Oklahoma's Sam Bradford and Texas's Colt McCoy and would be the third best quarterback behind them.

Prospect Comparison: Jermaine Gresham vs. Brandon Pettigrew

When you think of tight ends in this year's draft, you think of the biggest two names, Jermaine Gresham and Brandon Pettigrew. I like both prospects because their ability to catch the ball. The NFL is becoming more and more of a pass oriented league and your receivers need to get open and catch the ball. Gresham and Pettigrew are able to do that, and this is why I like them.

They are both similar in size, as both of them are 6'6'' and way around 260. Gresham is better receiver, who had 66 receptions this year for 950 yards, according to ESPN stats. He runs a bettter 40 than Pettigrew. Pettigrew is probably more of the natural tight end, who will block for you and catch the ball when needed. He had an ankle injury early this season, but he still produce by catching 42 receptions.

Gresham is a junior and if he enters the NFL Draft, Gresham will be drafted higher than Pettigrew. One of these players will be drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles, who are looking for a new tight end since LJ Smith hasn't produced in the last couple seasons. Both will be drafted in the late 1st to mid 2nd round.

LeSean McCoy will enter the NFL Draft

ESPN reporter Joe Shad is reporting that LeSean McCoy will enter this year's NFL Draft. Earlier reports said McCoy was in Florida, training. Now, he has came out and announced that he would forego his final two seasons and enter the NFL Draft. McCoy's name will be called in the late first to mid 2nd round. McCoy is a third year sophomore, and went to an academy his first year. Pitt is loosing a great player and also a position that is in dire need of a running back. Their other two running backs, Larod Stephens-Howling and Conridge Collins, are graduated, so they will have to give the ball to unproven underclassmen. Chris Burns, a reshirted freshman will most likely be the starting running back next year for Pitt.

LeSean McCoy Training in Florida?

Collegefantasyfootballinsider.com is reporting that LeSean McCoy is currently training in Florida. If these reports are true, I believe that McCoy is going to enter the Draft. He is probably preparing for the NFL Combine right now. Last week, McCoy and family met with head coach Dave Wannstedt about the pros and cons about entering the draft, pantherlair.com reports. Coach Wannstedt says, "I tried to present him with facts and truth more than anything else."

Tony Dungy Retires from NFL

Today, former football player and head coach Tony Dungy retires from NFL. He was part of the Steelers in the late 1970s as a defensive back and the first ever African american coach to win the Super Bowl in Super Bowl XLI against the Chicago Bears. To the NFL, this will be a great loss to the league. A good coach and a great man, I don't think the league could of asked more of Dungy. During his press conference, Dungy said, "My wife and I talked, and we just felt it was the right time. I think I've got a chance to do some things down the road. I think I've got a responsibility to be home a little more." I agree on Dungy's decision. He wants to be home and with his family and I believe he deserves it.

The Colts' coaching staff will be changed. Assistant head coach Jim Caldwell will step in, after being announced that Caldwell would be Dungy's replacement last year. I think Caldwell will do well and keep this organization going, but won't make such a big impact on the organization as Tony Dungy has.

3-4 DEs to Watch

The 3-4 DE job isn't the greatest, but very important in the
3-4. The main goal is to control the OT and contain his run gaps. This allows the OLB to rush the outside. He must be strong enough to take on double teams too. Most 3-4 DEs come into the league as a 4-3 DT, unless he is drafted specificly as a 3-4 DE. A great example of a 3-4 DE is New England's Richard Seymour. Seymour was a DT in college, playing aside with Marcus Stroud, Charles Grant, and Johnathon Sullivan. He was drafted by the Patroits in the 1st round (6th overall) in 2001, and now plays as a DE for the Pats. There are many talented players to watch out for in this years draft.

Jarron Gilbert, San Jose State- I like this guy because of his potential. He played DT for San Jose State and had 9 sacks/21.5 TFL. He has great size at 6'5''/280 lbs and this guy is very underrated. This guy should be looked at more carefully and has good potential. He is pretty slow though, as he ran a 5.15 forty

Tyson Jackson, LSU- He played DE in college, and has a 3-4 DE size at 6'-5''/285 lbs. He size is very similar to Gilbert, but more athletic. Some negatives about Jackson is that he doesn't have much explosion and he stands up sometimes. He will most likely be a mid to late 2nd rounder.

Vance Walker, Georgia Tech- Another DT, who can play in both the 4-3 or 3-4. He is 6'2''/290, but has great ability to stuff the run. He had 8.5 TFL in his first 10 games. Walker will be drafted around 4th or 5th round this year.
